About Me
Welcome to my page! This is a place that I hope will give you a better sense of me as a human. I was raised in the Hudson Valley in Red Hook, NY, and I ended up at a beautiful liberal arts college called Hamilton College and cherished a stellar English literature department. I got an American Studies degree, too, writing a terminal project lamenting the erosion of critical thinking, linking it to encroaching digitalism. I went to journalism school in Oregon and focused on arts journalism. My first internship was "rock critic boot camp" at the Willamette Week in Portland. I came back east to give New York City a shot and interned at Next Magazine, Out, and Flavorpill until moving to Philadelphia in the fall of 2008.

Here, I begged Brian McManus, then at Philadelphia Weekly, for a music internship and he was gracious enough to let me open mail and write a long-running column called On The Record. That turned into being a blogger, a contributor, a Senior Music Writer, and a Senior Arts & Entertainment Writer for PW - it was the best. From there, I wrote for three years as staff writer for the South Philly Review, where I reported on everything that fascinated me: Philly schools; parks and public spaces; City Council; LGBTQ issues, feminism and social justice; gentrification and development; community heroes, and much more. I won some awards along the way. I've also written for Metro Philly, the Philadelphia Inquirer, WHYY, The Lightning Strike, Very Glossy for the Philadelphia International Festival of Arts, MxDwn.com, 215 Magazine, and Fun Times Magazine.
